The main goal of Mayland's FREE Life Skills classes is to assist adult students with improving their academic, workplace, and independent living skills in order to prepare for greater community involvement, increased independence, further studies, and/or employment. In addition to learning basic reading, math, writing, and technology skills, students work with trained instructors to practice money management, decision making, self-advocacy, community awareness, and other relevant skills for increased independence and learning. Adults with intellectual or development disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Life Works

Life Works

The Life Works project is a service learning initiative of Mayland Community College involving students from the Life Skills and Work Skills Academy programs.

Students operate a nonprofit, simulated business in order to build academic, employability, and life skills through a series of entrepreneurial activities.

Students learn and practice these skills through the creation, distribution, and sale of a number of different hands-on projects. Some items are donated to local organizations, while others are sold as a fundraiser to support further educational opportunities for the students.

Scroll down to see some of the items that students create through the Life Works project.
