Eligibility Standards
Pre-College Programs Courses
Classes offered through the Pre-College Programs Department align with the requirements for Title II Adult Education services as defined by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the Office of Career and Technical Adult Education (OCTAE).
Classes are intended to support adult learners functioning below college level in obtaining the skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency, making sustainable improvements to the economic opportunities of their families, earning a high school credential, or preparing for entry into college, the community, or the workforce.
A student seeking enrollment in any Pre-College Programs class must meet the following technical standards:

Engagement with the Learning Environment
- Communicate clearly and effectively with others
- Work independently and follow verbal instructions and guidelines for participation in coursework
- Manage self-care activities (hygiene, bathroom trips, meals) and arrival to/from class without assistance from College staff

Completion of Classroom Assignments
- Self-direct and regulate behavior in activities related to class attendance, assignments, and activities
- Behave independently in a classroom environment

Display of Appropriate Workplace/Community Behaviors
- Adhere to the Mayland Community College Student Code of Conduct and specific Classroom Guidelines, including not disrupting the learning environment

Additional Federal and State Eligibility Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age or submit required documentation and notarized paperwork to enroll as at 16 or 17 years of age (Students under 16 may not enroll in these programs)
- Not be currently enrolled in a public, private, or home school
- Be able to complete an NRS (National Reporting Service)-approved skills assessment in order to determine educational functioning level, with or without accommodations
- Perform below college-level proficiency in language arts, reading comprehension, or mathematics
