About GEER
GEER funding helps cover all costs associated with these programs including registration/tuition fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, and other related costs of these courses. Eligible GEER classes for Summer 2021 are listed below.

JULY CLASSES
Electrical Technician I
Qualified electricians are always in demand. This Electrical Technician Level I class is based on the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum.
AUGUST CLASSES
Medical Coding
This program will provide students with the skills and basic information needed to sit for the Certified Coding Associate exam through the AHIMA and may also open entry level doors to opportunities in the health specialty of medical coding.
Phlebotomy
Phlebotomist are medical professionals who work in a variety of settings collecting blood. Generally, the purpose of drawing the blood is for sample work, but Certified Phlebotomy Technicians (CPT) may be responsible for conducting patient interviews, checking vital signs, and transporting the blood samples to a laboratory for testing purposes.
Paralegal Certificate Studies Program
Prepares students who already possess an associate’s degree or a bachelor’s degree for a career as a Paralegal. The North Carolina State Bar Board of Paralegal Certification has approved and designated Mayland Community College’s paralegal studies certificate program as a qualified paralegal studies program.
Nutritional Dietary Manager
Are you interested in a career that allows you to help people maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle? The nutritional dietary manager program will help you prepare to become a certified dietary manager.
Nurse Aide Hybrid
This course prepares individuals to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals in performing nursing care and services for persons of all ages. Students learn a variety of health care topics, hands on skills, and participate in clinical experiences.
CSWA Certified Solidworks Associate
Take the first step to become a Certified Solidworks Associate, Professional, or Expert. This class will help you get past the first level and achieve the CSWA (Certified Solidworks Associate Certificate).
Certified Production Technician Hybrid
The Certified Production Technician curriculum covers safety, quality practices and measurement, manufacturing and production processes, and maintenance awareness.
START Hospitality
The START Hospitality program developed by the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute is a curriculum that gives students the real-world knowledge and skills needed in the lodging industry.
SEPTEMBER CLASSES
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Designed to train individuals to become emergency medical personnel. Successful completion of this course allows the student to take the North Carolina EMT Exam. This is the first step in becoming a Paramedic.
HVAC Level I
Earn a national credential in the ever-evolving field of heating and air condition. Students will also have the opportunity to sit for the NC State EPA certification exam upon completion of the course.
OCTOBER CLASSES
Therapeutic Massage
This program provides participants with the basic information and skills needed to take the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Exam (MBLEx) offered by the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB). Graduates who pass this exam may apply for licensure to practice in North Carolina.
