RE: Presidential Search Update (Progress Report #3)
The Board of Trustees is pleased to report on the status of the search for the next President of Mayland Community College (MCC). The work done by the Board Search Committee and ACCT, coupled with the College’s excellent reputation, has attracted a strong pool of candidates from throughout North Carolina, the region and the nation. It is the purpose of this Progress Report to update MCC employees and members of the Mitchell, Avery, and Yancy County communities about the status of the Search process, and next steps.
Current Status of the Search Committee’s Work
Consistent with the “Timeline” adopted by the Board of Trustees Search Committee, the target date for the receipt of application materials was February 26th. The ACCT application portal was closed at the end of business that day. Board Search Committee members subsequently received access to the secure, confidential portal, and reviewed materials required to be submitted by the candidates. The Search Committee met on March 18th to identify and select semi-finalists.
Next Steps in the Search Process
The Board Search Committee will meet again to conduct confidential virtual interviews with each of the semi-finalists over a two-day period. Semi-finalist candidates will respond to questions about institutional challenges and opportunities, and their experiences and skill sets in leading and collaborating in academic excellence, student engagement, support, and success, economic and workforce development, resource development, and organizational operations. This process will ultimately enable the Board Search Committee to identify finalists for consideration of the next president of Mayland Community College.
Final Candidates
The Board will interview each of the final candidates during a period of approximately one week, currently scheduled for the week of April 29 - May 2. All finalists will participate in open forums at the College. We will provide the dates, times, and the location once the forums are confirmed. All employees, students, and community members will be invited to attend the open forums. It is the Board’s intention to submit their selection to the State Board of Community Colleges for consideration by June 2nd, as required by State Board Code.
We will continue to keep you updated on this important process. If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to our ACCT Search Consultant: Mr. Kennon Briggs, ACCT Search Consultant, kennondb@gmail.com, (919) 621-7988 (mobile
