Presidential Transition Tenets: How We Will Work Together

As we move forward together, my leadership will be guided by five interconnected tenets. These are not initiatives alone—they are commitments that shape our culture, decisions, and daily work.

People – Knowing and Valuing Relationships
We will lead by listening. Relationships matter here. Understanding one another’s roles, gifts, and challenges strengthens trust and deepens our shared purpose. Students, employees, trustees, and community partners are not stakeholders on paper—they are people we serve and learn from.

Processes – Understanding How We Work
Good intentions require good systems. We will examine our processes to ensure they support—not hinder—our ability to serve students well. Clarity, efficiency, and continuous improvement will be encouraged, and every employee’s insight will be valued.

Programs – Aligning Learning with Opportunity
Our programs must prepare students for meaningful lives and livelihoods. We will celebrate what distinguishes Mayland, strengthen what works, and courageously adapt when change is needed—always with student success and community impact at the center.

Paradigms – Shaping Culture and Mindset
How we think shapes what we do. We will challenge limiting assumptions, embrace innovation, and cultivate a student-first mindset. Mayland’s size is not a constraint—it is a strength when paired with vision, collaboration, and courage.

People (Again) – Remembering Why We Exist
We return where we began. Students are the reason we are here, and employees are the means by which our mission is fulfilled. We will celebrate contributions, ensure diverse voices are heard, and invest in the growth and well-being of our people—because cared-for people care better for others.
