My Why

I believe learning can change lives. Not just by finishing assignments or passing tests—but by helping people discover their strengths, build confidence, and see what’s possible for their future.

As the child of two educators, I always knew college was within reach. But I also know that’s not the case for everyone. That’s why I care so deeply about teaching—because I want education to feel welcoming and real for every student, no matter where you’re starting from.

I chose social and human services because it’s about people. It’s about listening, meeting others where they are, and walking beside them in both their hardest moments and their biggest victories. For me, this isn’t just a career—it’s a calling.

Teaching lets me bring those passions together: empowering students while strengthening communities. I came back here to raise my family, and it matters to me to make a difference in the place I call home.

Most of all, I teach because I love my students. Every student has a story, and being part of that journey—through the challenges and the triumphs—is the greatest reward of all.

Life Beyond the Classroom

“When I’m not teaching, I’m usually spending time with my husband and our two young-adult kids—one of whom followed in my footsteps and became a teacher. I also teach youth Sunday School, love to bake, and I’m a die-hard UNC fan (go Heels!).

Travel is a big part of who I am—I’ve been to 44 states so far, and Montana is my favorite. Visiting all 50 is on my bucket list. You’ll also find me on the lake, exploring National Parks, or cheering on a good basketball or baseball game. These are the things that recharge me and keep me grounded—so I can bring my best self back into the classroom with my students.”

Why Students Love Her

Because Misti doesn’t just prepare you for a career—she invests in you. She’ll celebrate your wins, walk with you through challenges, and remind you why you matter in this field. With her guidance, you won’t just earn a credential. You’ll step into a calling.
