REAL SKILLS. REAL WORK. REAL FUTURES.

MAYLAND WORKS

What is Apprenticeship?

Apprenticeship is a proven, earn-while-you-learn career pathway that combines paid on-the-job training with classroom instruction. It’s a flexible, employer-led model that helps individuals gain real experience, build in-demand skills, and earn nationally recognized credentials—without putting life on hold. Whether you're just starting out or looking to level up, apprenticeship gets you working, learning, and progressing from day one.

5 Key Components of Apprenticeship?

Employee Driven Design

At the heart of every Mayland Works apprenticeship is a committed employer. Businesses lead the way—helping shape each program around the real skills needed in the workplace. From design to delivery, employers are active partners at every step.

Hands-On Training at the Job Site

Apprentices gain structured, real-world experience alongside experienced mentors. This on-the-job training typically spans a year or more and follows a clear skills roadmap to ensure the apprentice becomes fully proficient in their role.

Related Technical Instruction

Classroom learning supports what happens on the job. Apprentices receive instruction that builds the technical, academic, and professional skills they need—delivered by Mayland Community College or in partnership with the employer. Together, we work to align curriculum and identify funding options that keep it affordable.

Progressive Wages for Skill Growth

As apprentices build skills, they also build their paycheck. Each program includes wage increases tied to learning milestones—so apprentices stay motivated and see real-time value in their training.

Portable, Nationally Recognized Credentials

Every registered apprenticeship leads to a credential that’s recognized across the country. Graduates leave with more than just experience—they leave with proof that they’re ready for the next step in their career.

Workforce Apprenticeships

In addition to trade-specific apprenticeships, Mayland Works partners with local employers to create customized, high-quality workforce apprenticeships tailored to the needs of regional industries.

These programs combine structured on-the-job training with related technical instruction, preparing apprentices to meet both industry standards and local employer expectations. Apprentices can work toward earning industry credentials such as a ???? as well as college-level credentials like a Technical Certificate or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree through Mayland Community College.

Mayland’s apprenticeship programs are flexible, employer-driven, and designed to develop a highly skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of today’s jobs—and tomorrow’s.

Building Trade Apprenticeships

Building trade apprenticeships provide structured on-the-job training led by experienced mentors, along with related technical education through Mayland Community College. Upon completion, apprentices earn a nationally recognized certificate from the U.S. Department of Labor. Many also complete a Technical Certificate or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree—often with little or no out-of-pocket cost.

Whether you're looking to start a new career or level up in your current field, Mayland Works gives you the tools, support, and credentials to succeed.
