What the President’s Message Asks of Us—and Offers Us
Being part of Mayland Community College means more than holding a position—it means sharing responsibility for students, for one another, and for the future of the communities we serve. Regardless of role or title, every employee contributes to the student experience and to our collective success.
My voice matters. My experiences, ideas, and concerns are welcomed and respected. I can expect leadership to listen, seek understanding, and build relationships rooted in trust. I am encouraged to know my colleagues and to approach my work with empathy and care.
Whether I work directly with students or support them behind the scenes, my work impacts their ability to learn, persist, and succeed. I am expected to approach my responsibilities with a student-first mindset and to ask, “How does this help the people we serve?”
I am invited to share ideas about how our processes can be clearer, more efficient, and more supportive of students and employees. If something creates unnecessary barriers, I can speak up. Continuous improvement is not about blame—it is about making Mayland better together.
I support learning experiences that prepare students for transfer, employment, and purposeful lives. I understand that programs may grow, change, or conclude based on student needs and community impact—and that thoughtful change is part of serving well.
How I show up matters. I help shape Mayland’s culture through collaboration, openness, and a willingness to try new approaches. I am encouraged to think creatively, challenge limiting assumptions, and believe that Mayland can lead, not follow.
My contributions are recognized. My growth and well-being matter. I can expect opportunities for learning, professional development, and celebration of accomplishments. Mayland succeeds when its people are supported and cared for.
